Steps
- Measure1 minby weight, into a dry bowlcereal, 30–40 g per adult — weigh it rather than eyeballing the bowl, because the same 35 g is a heaped cup of puffed rice and barely half a cup of dense granola; portioning by bowl volume is why granola servings run double what people intend
- Top1 mincereal already in the bowl, milk straight from the fridge+ cold milk, about 125 ml to start and no more than a cup — pour it last, over the cereal, not the cereal onto standing milk, since absorption begins on contact and a bowl filled onto milk is already softening before it is full
- Prep0 mineat immediately, top up mid-bowljudge the pour against absorbency rather than a fixed volume: porous flakes and puffed shapes want less milk and a second splash halfway down, baked clusters tolerate a fuller pour. There is no defensible soak time — texture is a continuous slide from brittle through a briefly tougher stage into collapse, and the failure mode is simply a bowl left standing, which is why the last third goes uneaten
